Subject: [tovi] Portland State University - Vision Program
Dear Colleagues, Friends and Supporters -
It is with a great deal of pleasure that I am able to announce that the
Program to Prepare Teachers of Children with Visual Impairments at
Portland State University will re-open in the summer of 2010. I would
like to personally thank every person who called the university, sent
letters of support and provided encouragement during the struggle to
maintain the program in a time of 15% budget cuts at the university.
Special thanks need to go to Ms. Glinda Hill, our OSEP project officer
who provided the constant support for the program, and was also able to
provide a nudge to the university to make a positive decision. Also to
AERBVI central office, Oregon Chapter, Pacific Northwest Chapter, AER
Personnel Prep Division; COSB and individual superintendents; local and
national affiliates of the National Federation of the Blind; and the
many individuals who took the time to comment on our situation. It
warms my heart to know that we can come together as a profession in time
of need to support one another.
We do know there will be some program redesign, but that we will
continue with the distance education component, and we have been able to
continue with our current OSEP grant funding for another year.
Again thanks to all - your help is truly appreciated!
