BAKE SALE FOR TRANSIT: TELL LEGISLATORS TO SAVE BUS SERVICE

How bad is the funding situation for transit in Snohomish County? Unless the
Legislature takes action in two weeks,
<http://org2.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=6QnSIEroce2NtK%2FdDvE
Szyvp4mG2%2Fv0n> Community Transit will have to cut service by 15%,
including ALL Sunday service, because of a steep drop in sales tax revenue.

To illustrate the dire situation, transit advocates are holding a Bake Sale
for Transit at the Aurora Village Transit Center next Monday morning. We
need you to come show your support for transit and demand the Legislature to
take action. Make a fuss and help save your bus!

And yes, there will be a real bake sale and free coffee -- all proceeds to
benefit Community Transit. You'll also have the opportunity to sign
postcards to send to your legislators.

Why are we doing this? Community Transit in Snohomish County is anticipating
a $180 million loss of sales tax revenue through 2013 due to the struggling
economy. To balance its budget, the agency has deferred vanpool and bus
purchases and made multi-million dollar spending cuts. The agency is now
forced to cut service a total of 15%, which will include the elimination of
ALL Sunday service as well as other service changes across the county.
Because Snohomish County has no additional taxing authority, the state
Legislature must provide new revenue tools for the agency to preserve bus
service.

WHAT: Bake Sale for Transit -- a community and media event to urge the
state Legislature to save bus service in Snohomish County

WHEN: Monday, March 1st, morning commute rush hour from 7:00am-9:00am

WHERE: Aurora Transit Village at N 200th St and Aurora Ave N, Shoreline
