Subject: Alan Garrels
With utmost gratitude for his years of service and commitment to our
agency, I want to let you know that Alan Garrels has made the decision
to retire as of July 31, 2010.
Alan is one of the most generous, sincere, hardworking, and funny people
we know. He brings humor, sensitivity, and an acute understanding of
others to everything he does. His compassion and talent for working
with youth and families have contributed to many individual successes,
as well as to the success of our entire agency.
Alan began at DSB in 1984 as an O&M Instructor and went on to work with,
and then manage, the Child & Family Program. For over 25 years, Alan's
vision and values have impacted the lives of children and youth who are
blind or have low vision. Not only has Alan contributed enormously to
the lives of these youth and their families, but he has done so with
humor, humility and charm.
Please join me in honoring Alan's contributions to our agency and to the
lives of our customers, our coworkers, and our communities, by emailing
to Ellen Drumheller ellDrumheller at dsb.wa.gov
<mailto:ellDrumheller at dsb.wa.gov> some of your favorite stories and
photos of Alan throughout the years. We'll be using these stories and
photos to create a book of gratitude for Alan that will share the good
times and the accomplishments we've experienced because of him. Please
submit those stories and photos to Ellen by the end of this month, June
30.
Thank you for participating.
