Subject: [tovi] 2010 Youth Conference Announcement

Hi All,

Please let your students know about the upcoming Conference for Blind
Youth. The announcement is pasted below for your information.

Thank you very much.

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF CONVERSATION AND LISTENING

The Department of Services for the Blind announces the 2010 Youth
Conference to be held in conjunction with the annual convention of the
Washington Council of the Blind in Vancouver, Washington at the
Vancouver Hilton hotel. The conference will take place Friday November
12 and Saturday November 13.

This year the focus is on improving social interactions and experiences
through presentations and interactive activities to build skills of
listening and conversational expertise. Additional activities include a
group dinner, the ever popular WCB talent show, opportunities to attend
sessions of the convention of interest, and the Saturday evening
banquet. Attendees must be at least sixteen years old and independently
capable of taking care of medical needs as well as in the area of
orientation and mobility. Overnight supervision will be provided by
DSB.

Lodging is provided by the WCB but conferees must register for the
convention and choose how many meals to attend as part of the
registration process. Participants are urged to bring pocket money for
incidentals and meals in transit. For registration information and
costs, please go to www.wcbinfo.org <http://www.wcbinfo.org/> and
follow the links to convention registration. The cutoff date for
registration is October 15, 2010 but quick action is important,
especially if assistance is requested. Please indicate youth conference
on your registration so we have an idea of who will be attending.

Due to limited State resources in this present economy, families are
asked to cover meal and registration expenses. Transportation costs and
other assistance may be possible through DSB but only if the student is
an eligible client of the DSB transition program. Due to time
constraints which might affect the ability to determine someone eligible
for services, such assistance may or may not be possible but it is best
to discuss such issues with the DSB transition counselor for your
geographic area.
