So You Want to be an ADA Trainer?
(Perhaps You'd Like to Train in Spanish?)
with
The Staff of the Northwest ADA Center
A number of individuals have expressed an interest in becoming trainers on the ADA, especially if they were able to take advantage of a prepared curriculum. The national ADA Trainer Network (ATN) was developed for just that reason, and provides a ready-to-use set of presentations across a number of important disability topics. It is a joint project between the NE ADA Center at Cornell University and the NW ADA Center at the University of Washington. To become part of the ADA Trainer Network, you will need to attend this workshop to learn to use the ATN curriculum and procedures.
Recently, there have been requests for ADA training for Spanish-speaking audiences, and the ATN curriculum has been almost completely translated into Spanish. This two-day workshop, which will be conducted in English, will train participants in using the ATN curriculum and help them plan for marketing their services. Participants are expected to use the ATN curriculum to make at least two presentations in the year following this workshop. Participants do not need to be bi-lingual to attend the session, and while there will be an emphasis on reaching a Spanish-speaking audience, those who plan to work exclusively with English-speaking audiences are quite welcome.
There is no cost to attend, but participants must be registered prior to the workshop.
ATN Curriculum
* Disability Awareness; Understanding the ADA, Communicating Respectfully and Effectively with People with Disabilities
* Getting Hired and Moving Ahead in a Job When Working with a Disability
* Tapping Into Talent: Best Practices in hiring, Retaining and Accommodating People with Disabilities
* Serving Customers with Disabilities: Reaching Out, Expanding Your Market
* About Hidden Disabilities: Legal, Practical, and Human Side of Non-Obvious Disabilities
* Reaching Individuals with Disabilities: Accessibility in Federal, State, or Municipal Entities
* Reaching Individuals with Disabilities: Accessibility in Private or Commercial Business
* Accessible Technology in the Workplace
* Accessible Worksites: Everyone Benefits
