Subject: Seattle-Area Blind Volunteers Needed for Erik Weihenmayer Event

Dear Denise:

Global Explorers, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization, is looking for
volunteers (adults or students) who are blind to participate in an October
11th Seattle event with Erik Weihenmayer. The event is a reception, a
dinner in the dark and a lecture by Erik Weihenmayer for corporate clients
in the Seattle area. The event is raising scholarship money for Washington
area youth to travel with Global Explorers on future youth expeditions that
combine students with and without visual impairments. If you're interested
in learning more, please read the details below. Feel free to send this
message to other people who might be interested. Thanks!

*What:* Dinner in the Dark Event for Pacific Northwest YPO Members

*When:* October 11, 2011 (commitment would be approximately 5 hours),
beginning at 3:30 PM

*Where:* Georgetown Ballroom, 5623 Airport Way South, Seattle, Washington
98108

* *

*Who do We Need:* 9-12 Blind/Visually Impaired Volunteers - adults or
teenagers; transportation can be provided if necessary

*Volunteer Duties:* Each volunteer will guide 1-3 groups of 7-8 diners to
their table, help diners understand their surroundings and stimulate
conversation. Global Explorers trains all volunteers. Volunteers all
receive a signed copy of Erik's book and an opportunity to meet Erik in
person. Since this is an event is a private corporate event, we can only
provide dinner space for the volunteer and not for his/her guide.
Volunteers should be ages 16 or older.

*Benefits:* Participation in an elegant, inspirational dinner, featuring
Erik Weihenmayer, as the keynote speaker; help raise money to provide
scholarships for B/VI students to travel with Global Explorers; volunteers
can elect to receive a $50 Visa Gift Card for participating.

*Training:* Volunteers will be sent event details prior to the event, and
will be expected to arrive 1 hour prior to the beginning of the event for
on-site orientation and training

Contact: To participate or if you have questions, contact Katie Watkins
akatie.watkins at globalexplorers.org or 1-877-627-1425

*About Erik Weihenmayer:*

On May 25, 2001, Erik Weihenmayer became the only blind man in history to
reach the summit of the world's highest peak - Mount Everest. In 2008, when
he stood on top of Carstenz Pyramid, the tallest peak in Austral-Asia,
Weihenmayer completed his quest to climb the Seven Summits - the highest
mountains on each of the seven continents. Fewer than 100 mountaineers have
accomplished this feat.

Erik's motivational speaking focuses on harnessing the power of adversity,
the importance of a strong "rope team" and the daily struggle to pursue your
dreams. Weihenmayer's accomplishments show that one does not need perfect
eyesight to have extraordinary vision.

Clients have included Google, Bank of America, General Mills, Procter &
Gamble, Wal-Mart, Cisco Systems, Hilton, Abbott, IBM, Merill Lynch,
Cingular, General Electric, Baxter, American Express, Wells Fargo,
Microsoft, Morgan Stanley and UBS. Erik has shared the speaking platform
with notables like Mayor Rudy Giuliani, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and
President George Bush.
