Wow, a censor that would move the BRAILLE display! That's
interesting. That would take some getting used to but I think I
could learn to like it. But wow, $6000! I cannot remember the
lady's name who is now heading NLS. But I heard her presentation
from the ACB convention. She was talking about how at some point
she wants to see something for people who want to read Braille
books i the NLS collection, so working on cheaper more efficient
Braille displays is in the cards. She said that hard-cover
Braille ii expensive to produce, and many people are having
issues with the Post Office in terms of having books delivered.
I'VE never had issues with delivery but getting the big boxes to
the Post Office was not always easy. So I'm not sure what she
has in mind but in the future hard copy Braille books may be
fewer and books that can be electronically downloaded as brf
files will be more the norm. NLS would issue "Braille Readers"
like the digital players are now issued. Doubt that it will be
any time very soon but who knows? Anyway it sounds interesting.
Peace, Debby
