Please join the National Research and Training Center for Personal Assistance Services (PAS Center) on Monday, June 25, 2012, for a free webinar on Shelter Volunteer Caregiving Training. This webinar is part of a summer series of webinars from the PAS Center examining Promising Practices in Personal Assistance Services (PAS) in Emergencies.
About the webinar
After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused much devastation in Louisiana in 2005, the Advocacy Center reached out to people with disabilities who were affected by these disasters. Noticeably, there was a lack of personal assistance in the shelters that the Advocacy Center staff visited. The Advocacy Center banded with state agencies, the American Red Cross, and other nonprofits to work together as a coalition to find a way to resolve this issue. In response, the Coalition developed a project that recruits and trains shelter volunteers to provide PAS to people who need this assistance while residing in a shelter post-disaster. This webinar will review the set-up and process of the training.
The 60-minute webinar will begin at 2:00pm Eastern; 1:00pm Central; noon Mountain; 11:00am Pacific; 10:00am Alaska and 8:00am Hawaii.
There is no fee and no pre-registration for this webinar, which is open to everyone. An archive of this webinar will be available at a later date.
