Thought the below e-newsletter from the Deaf Blind Service Center might be of interest to this list, particularly the picnic scheduled for August 4.

New Updates from DBSC
(Editor's note - message is from Angela Theriault, Executive Director)
I can't believe that it is June. Where did the time go? I want to share exciting news about updates for DBSC.
Give Big Day
The Seattle Foundation held its second annual Give Big day on May 2nd and raised a record-breaking $7.4 million. Thanks to all of you who supported by donating to DBSC. DBSC received $2,673.01 which included the Seattle Foundation stretch funds. Thank you for being involved and supporting our Deaf-Blind community.
Communication Facilitator (CF) Program
Last year, deaf-blind CF users had to travel to DBSC or the Lighthouse for the Blind to make VRS calls using CF services. Last July that program expanded by adding Mobile CF services. A trained Communication Facilitator meets the deaf-blind CF user at her/his preferred public site or the comfort of her/his home. That program is very popular and in demand. Requests for CF services have increased by 40%. DBSC wants to say thank you to Steve Peck and Eric Raff who work for Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) for providing an extra $10,000.00 for CF services starting July 2012. If you want to get more information about the CF program or make a request for CF services, please contact Jackie Engler-Morris at jengler at seattledbsc.org<mailto:jengler at seattledbsc.org>.
New Contractor for SSP/Advocacy Program
Colleen R Rozmaryn, who is well-known by the Deaf-Blind community, retired on June 1, 2012. She has worked for the ODHH for the past 24 years. She started working as the contractor with DBSC this year and we will miss her a lot. Best wishes, Colleen!
Claudia Foy, who is Deaf and has worked for ODHH for 6 years, is our new contactor. DBSC is looking forward to working with her. Please welcome her to the Deaf-Blind community.
DBSC Walkathon
On Saturday, May 19th, DBSC held its 9th Annual Walkathon at Alki Beach in West Seattle. The weather was beautiful again this year with a cool sunny day. Walkathon co-chairperson, Janie McDermott, welcomed the 17 Deaf-Blind community members. Janie's co-chair, Pat Cave, announced the prize winners at the end of the walk. DBSC board member John Romish won a $25.00 Starbucks gift card for collecting the most pledges. All of the walker's names went into a drawing for $10.00 Starbucks gift cards. Bob Blumenau and Corey Clark were the happy winners. DBSC raised $330.00 after expenses. A big "Thank You" to all of the walkers and a special "Thank You" to the many SSPs who volunteered for the event!
WSDBC/DBSC Picnic
Please reserve the date on your calendar! WSDBC/DBSC Picnic will be held at Woodland Park (shelter 3) on Saturday, August 4th from 10 am to 2 pm. Come join the fun! DBSC will send out another email and post info on the DBSC website to provide more details about the picnic.
Enjoy your summer!
Please take care of yourself and be safe!
