I think it's right on the edge.  Winco doesn't seem to have courtesy 
clerks.  I've had them tell me they didn't have anybody to help me.

I don't think it's an unusual request to ask a person to call ahead of time, 
but having said that, the Safeway here said not to.  I try to go when I know 
they're not terribly busy.
