Hello everyone,

We had another good Greater Seattle Chapter meeting in September. There were 11 members present.

Jim Janney gave us an update on Vicki Blazon, a member who recently had a stroke. Vicky has been transferred to Park Ridge care facility for stroke rehabilitation. She has regained some range of motion, but has a long recovery ahead. Jim and Mary Helen are assisting with her therapies.  We decided to send Vicki a singing telegram, because of her deep love of music. Josie Armantrout will coordinate this.

We got updates on our successful Goodwill protest and this year's Shop For A Cause fundraiser. We make $71.00 on the latter event. Jim Janney learned some things which will result  in us having better table placement and earlier access to ticket next year.

The upcoming NFB state convention was discussed. We voted to allocate $100.00 for cash door prizes. Many members will be attending the convention. We had a spirited discussion about the reformation of our state student division. We want to give our full support to this effort. Chapter members had god ideas about mentoring new students.

Mike Mello provided us with information concerning the impending changes at Metro. Some routes will be added, some discontinued, and the Ride Free zone will  no longer exist.  There will be new RapidRide service (Very frequent service on a new kind of bus) which will run from West Seattle-Downtown-Ballard. Mike also expressed concern over Metro's lack of availability of Braille and large print materials. Members were urged to contact Metro and ask for these materials. We need to put pressure on them to provide accessible materials to blind people.

Since State convention will take place on the weekend when we would normally meet in  October, there will be no chapter meeting in Seattle this month. We will be meeting with all of our Federation brothers and sisters in  Everett! Our next regular meeting will be held on Saturday, November 17th , in Seattle, specific location TBA.
