I am organizing a voting accessibility call for NABS. In doing this, I
contacted Luanne Blake at the national center to get some questions
answered. One of the issues I brought up with her was the problem with
accessibility and mail out ballots. I am new to Washington, thus you
guys may already know, but she mentioned that Kitsap county offers an
online voting alternative for voters with disabilities. So I thought
I’d pass that along to any Kitsap residents. If you qualify for this
alternative, then I would suggest contacting the county board of
elections to see if you can do this for the upcoming election. Also, I
think it would be cool if we attempted to learn from Kitsap county.
They had to have put the accessible system in place somehow, and if we
learn from their board of elections how they did that, maybe we can
communicate with other counties. Luanne said the system is great and
accessible, but it unfortunately is only available to county
residents.

Since accessible voting is relevant to all blind adults, NABS is
extending the invitation to attend the membership call to all blind
people, so look out for more info as the date approaches. It will be
on October 21.
