Here are some short bios of the musicians.
Pacific Northwest duo Hank Payne and Claire Favro offer close harmonies and
vibrant intensity in their acoustic renditions of a wide range of songs.
Their combined repertoire includes original songs, traditional folk, covers,
and tunes from lesser-known contemporary singer/songwriters. Each has a long
and varied musical background, with involvement in professional gigs and
community music-making since the coffee house days of the 1960's. They share
a dedication to perpetuating the tradition of live music, recognizing its
powerful potential for healing and nurturing the human spirit. Their musical
collaboration encompasses everything: joy, whimsy, melancholy, and just
plain fun.
Doug Reymore had been playing instruments since the second grade. He first
mastered the accordion, and then on to the cornet, the baritone horn, piano,
the guitar in college. At that juncture his singing began with a trio that
became well known in the Seattle area, also performing at other venues in
Washington and California. He also played 5-string banjo with the trio.
Doug has been, and continues to be, a member of several singing groups and
in recent years has focused on the autoharp to accompany his vocals. While
he enjoys singing lead on songs, his first love is working out vocal and
instrumental harmonies with other singer/musicians, for the richness it
offers.
Bill Murlin is a well known musician around the Pacific Northwest. He is
one half of the music duo "The Wanderers." In addition to being a fine
musician, he also is known for his extensive work regarding the life and
music of Woody Guthrie. Bill collected the twenty-six Columbia River songs
written by Guthrie, and published a song book and a recording. For this
concert, Bill will be part of a duo with Jim Portillo.
Jim Portillo originally hails from El Paso, Texas. Education and job
opportunities led him to Nebraska and eventually to the Pacific Northwest,
all the while soaking in the folk music and story songs that he so dearly
loved.
Constantly learning and listening to new music as he honed his guitar skills
and vocal chops, he has performed in a variety of venues across Washington
State, from coffeehouses to folk society concert settings. In recent years
he has picked up the bass and added that instrument and his harmony vocals
to the music of his pal, Bill Murlin. He has also worked accompanying "The
Wanderers," "The Unpaid Bills," "Hank and Claire," and other Northwest
musicians who are only too happy to have Jim add his talents to their songs.
