[nfbwatlk] action needed on Space Available Bills in Congress

Our Space Available veterans bills (HB 164 & S 346) are gaining momentum. There are currently over 80 House sponsors and more than 10 in the Senate.  Senator Murray, as well as Representatives Herrera-Beutler and McMorris-Rodgers have already signed on as cosponsors. We have been asked to target a couple of Congresspersons for their co-sponsorship of this bill. During yesterday's NFBW Board conference call we discussed the matter and decided to contact Representatives McDermott and Reichert, and also Senator Cantwell. I am attaching the Fact Sheet on this legislation in case anyone is unfamiliar with it. Basically, it would allow discharged service-disabled veterans to fly home on military aircraft when space available, a privilege now open to other service members and Red Cross workers. You can call or email Sen. Cantwell and Reps. McDermott & Reichert using the information listed below. Regardless of where you live, you may identify yourself as a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Washington and tell the office you are following up on the Federation's visit to their offices in February. Let's put an effort into this in the next couple of days and see if we can get more cosponsors from Washington!

Senate: Kellin Clark in Senator Tester's office would be able to add Senator Cantwell as a cosponsor of S 346
