Duties:
This position reports to the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library (WTBBL) and is responsible for designing and implementing instruction programs, delivering training, and providing technology support for the WTBBL.
Designs programs and provides consultation
Designs and implements information literacy, audio book downloading, assistive technology, and other training programs for patrons, care givers, external organizations and libraries, and staff.
Serves on WebJunction Advisory Council and presents and consults on access, assistive technology, and accessibility.
Provides expertise on collections and weeding
Serves as a member of the Collection Development Committee, recommending books for production and weeding.
Works closely with WTBBL libraries in cataloging, collection planning and maintenance, and programming.
Works with librarians to support reference services.
Provides training and technology support
Manages patron computer lab, including supplies and equipment.
Works with SOS IT and communications to design, edit, and maintain the WTBBL website, including a mobile version and appropriate applications.
Participates in training and management of WTBBL's social media presence.
Provides technology support for book clubs and events.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
ALA accredited Masters degree in Library and Information Science.
One year of experience designing, implementing, and providing innovative and specialized library services, or providing public library services, and working with library automation systems, specialized collection development and reference materials.
Ability to efficiently use a personal computer and applicable hardware and software to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.
Willingness to work with the blind, visually impaired, deaf/blind, physically disabled, or learning disabled patrons.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience designing, teaching, and implementing training and instructional programs with an emphasis on using and providing training with a wide variety of assistive technologies including screen-readers, magnification, and braille devices.
Experience designing, implementing, evaluating, and providing public library services tailored to the accessibility needs of blind and/or disabled patrons.
Coursework or equivalent experience in web design.
