The Office for Civil Rights (SOCR) is committed to creating and sustaining an organization free of institutional racism and promoting social justice. Successful candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of race, racism, and multiculturalism to their job function and their commitment to creating organizations free of racism. In this position a successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with city employees and the community to help achieve racial equity. This is a full-time position in the RSJI Division and will report to the RSJI Manager

Job Responsibilities:

Primary Duties: Support and assist with the development and implementation of strategies to eliminate institutionalized racism and promote multiculturalism within the City of Seattle through the City's Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI). This position would focus on City equity areas, including the areas of education, equitable development and criminal justice. The position will partner with community-based organizations to coordinate their efforts with the City of Seattle and other partner institutions. In addition, this position would provide support for training, technical assistance and coordination of community efforts to address racial equity.
Coordinate and promote racial justice public engagement and communication goals. Develop communication materials for the Initiative, including written resources. Coordinate SOCR/RSJI related events with community. Provide RSJI training and technical assistance. Plan and develop public education and outreach programs and activities that educate about racial justice. Develop strategies, in conjunction with other institutions and community based organizations, to address race-based disparities in the community. Deliver RSJI presentations. Other duties as assigned.
Engage new and diverse populations in City efforts to address racial inequity. Focus would be on communities of color and immigrant and refugee communities and intersections with other communities on gender, sexual orientation, ability and class.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
* One year of civil and/or human rights experience with outreach campaigns, legislative and policy analysis, program planning and implementation or advocacy;
* Bachelor's Degree in sociology or law and social justice or related field or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of this position.
