Easy Chirp Technology: How People with Visual Impairments Can Now Access Twitter
Aug 12, 2015
Are you or someone you know visually impaired? Are you interested in using Twitter to stay connected with friends, stay up-to-date on the news or find work opportunities?
Easy Chirp is a website that can help people with disabilities view information and interact on Twitter. The site is highly accessible and designed to work with assistive technology<http://www.chooseworkttw.net/blog-archive/blog-post?post_id=346> such as screen readers, screen enlargers, braille-output, text-only browsers and many other web-enabled devices. The site does not require you to have a specific browser or internet connection speed.
Other Easy Chirp features that make the application accessible include:
* Screen displays can be light or dark depending on one's visual ability or preference.
* Text that is offered in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and German.
* A zoom feature that can display text that can be increased in size up to 200% without breaking the layout.
If you are not on Twitter already, you can follow these steps to sign up<https://support.twitter.com/groups/31-twitter-basics/topics/104-welcome-to-twitter-support/articles/100990-how-to-sign-up-on-twitter>.
If you are already on Twitter, you can start using Easy Chirp by following these steps:
1. Visit the Easy Chirp homepage<http://www.easychirp.com/>. On the right-hand side of the page there will be a box that says "Sign in with Twitter." Click this box.
2. Enter your username and password for Twitter under where it says, "Authorize Easy Chirp to use your account?" Then click "Authorize app."
Authorizing Easy Chirp will allow the application to post tweets for you and read tweets from your timeline. The authorization will not give Easy Chirp access to your Twitter password. Visit Easy Chirp's About page<http://www.easychirp.com/about> for more information about how your Twitter information will be protected.
