Oh, they do.  It takes about two years, maybe more, getting shots 
to totally desensitize your system.  For people who still love 
dogs, or have a guide dog, I recommend it.  Otherwise, probably 
not worth it.  It's a little painful, and definitely takes a lot 
of time.  You have to sit in the allergist's office after you get 
the shot to make sure you aren't going to have an adverse 
reaction.  They finally gave me permission to get them at work, 
since we have a nurse in the federal building.  So I could do it 
at my lunchtime.  But otherwise I had to either take sick leave 
or leave without pay to go to the allergist.  And at first, I had 
to go twice a week.  Now I have tested negative for all 
allergies.  (Except Penicillin.  But it had gotten so bad that 
the hearing in one of my ears was being affected, and about half 
the time I was sick.  So I had to get the shots.  I was just 
blessed that I had the insurance and all to get the shots.
