NFB of Washington,

There is a book on Bard That mentions the NFB of Washington and, our former scholarship chairperson, Rita Szantay. The book is:

While the city slept: a love lost to violence and a young man's descent into madness DB83543<https://nlsbard.loc.gov/nlsbardprod/download/detail/srch/DB83543>
Sanders, Eli. Reading time: 9 hours, 50 minutes.
Read by Rene Ruiz.

True Crime

A reporter expands upon his 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of a Seattle murder and the system that failed to act on the signs of mental illness. When the lives of lovers Teresa Butz and Jennifer Hopper intersect with that of young Isaiah Kalebu, all three paths are forever altered. Unrated. Commercial audiobook. 2016.

Some of you will remember Teresa Butz, a sighted woman who came to one of our state conventions in Vancouver. Scott LaBarre was the national representative. Some of us danced in the hotel's bar, including Teresa.

Teresa also came to at least one of the Seattle Chapter's summer parties at my house. I remember her as a forthright and fun person.

After Teresa was murdered in Seattle in 2009, Rita attended her memorial service and spoke about their mutual love of baseball.
I thought some of you might be interested in Mr. Sanders' book as it talks about Teresa's adventurous life.

Noel
