Hi Listers,

While the substance of the below is not necessarily specifically related to blindness issues, I thought it might be of interest in our advocacy work. Also, if you are of a mind to do so, I'd like any feedback on the accessibility and usability of the web site is from those who use screen reader software, Etc. This is not a request as part of my duties at OCR, just as a citizen interested in how the government is doing. (smile.)

Anyway, here's information you can use.

OCR Launches Newly Redesigned Website!

Over the past several months, the HHS Office for Civil Rights has undertaken a full redesign of our website. We are thrilled to share with you the new www.hhs.gov/ocr<http://www.hhs.gov/ocr>, a more responsive, user-friendly platform.

"Our website is a critical component of our outreach, education and enforcement efforts," said Jocelyn Samuels, OCR's Director. "The new features and capabilities of the website will help visitors quickly and easily find the information they are looking for. We are committed to providing the most useful tools as possible for our audiences and this new site will help us in achieving this goal."

Did you know......?

OCR receives TWO MILLION visitors to our website each year.
OCR owns 8 of the top 10 most visited webpages on hhs.gov.
HIPAA is the MOST SEARCHED term on hhs.gov.

Here are some of the new features of the site:

§ Categorizes information and resources by "Individuals", "Professionals" and "Providers" for easier, quicker access to the most useful content.

§ Powerful search functionality displays OCR-specific information and resources prominently at the top of search results listings. This feature also offers links to related content posted on other U.S Department of Health and Human Services websites.

§ Most requested information is prominently displayed in "I would like info on..." box located on the main homepages for Civil Rights and Health Information Privacy. In addition, content is organized by topic and accessible through the navigation.

§ Built on a mobile-first platform to optimize access on cell phones, tablets and other mobile devices.

§ Site navigation and content lay out on the webpages are simplified and refined.

The redesign of our website was guided by web analytics, usability testing and feedback from our partners and the public. OCR is the first division within HHS to launch a newly designed website as part of the "Reimagined HHS.gov"<http://www.hhs.gov/blog/2015/05/18/welcome-reimagined-hhsgov.html> project.
