Subject: [Waped] DO-IT Scholar 2016 Recruitment

WAPED members,

We would like your assistance in finding applicants for our 2016 DO-IT Scholars program. Please forward this email to students, teachers, parents, or others who might know a high school student with a disability that fits the following requirements:

  *   are currently a sophomore or junior in high school in Washington State;
  *   have an aptitude and interest in attending college;
  * have any disability such as, but not restricted to, mobility impairment, learning disability, sensory impairment, or health impairment; and
  * are motivated to participate and interested in interacting with other students with a variety of disabilities.
The application is attached and can be found online at http://www.washington.edu/doit/Brochures/Programs/application.html.

Applicants who are selected as DO-IT Scholars are loaned computers and adaptive technology needed to participate in electronic mentoring and Internet support year-round. For up to three summers, DO-IT Scholars attend a one-to-two week, live-in summer program on the University of Washington, Seattle campus, where they learn about college selection, challenging careers, self-advocacy, and adaptive technology. Applications are accepted throughout the school year for the upcoming summer.

Students are encouraged to work on and submit their applications in the fall and winter since priority is given to applications received before January 30, 2016. Applications received after January 30 will be considered on a space-available basis. Please feel free to make copies of the attached application, request additional printed copies from DO-IT, or distribute this email.

Thank you for your assistance in sharing this information and identifying potential participants for the 2016 DO-IT Scholars program. If you would like more information about these programs, contact us at 206-685-3648 (v/TTY) or doit at uw.edu<mailto:doit at uw.edu>.
