Last call for #CripTheVoteStories!

Rooted in Rights and the organizers of #CripTheVote<http://www.disabilityrightswa.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2988&qid=331177> invite people with disabilities to submit their videos<http://www.disabilityrightswa.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2982&qid=331177> about the importance of voting and political participation. Rooted in Rights will edit and create a series of short videos featuring the disability community this fall as Election Day approaches.

On Tuesday, September 27, National Voter Registration Day, at 5pm EST, #CripTheVote will host a Twitter chat<http://www.disabilityrightswa.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2983&qid=331177> on Storytelling and Voting with Rooted in Rights as a Guest Host. Please save the date and join us!

Submission guidelines

Please record a short, less than five minute video of yourself telling your story. Please record in a quiet, well lit space. Rooted in Rights will edit the videos for length and clarity, caption them, and release them on the #CripTheVote and Rooted in Rights social media channels. Here are a few questions to consider when creating your video:

  * What does political participation mean to you as a disabled person?
  * Tell us about your experiences with political participation (volunteering, attending caucuses, registering people to vote, attending events, voting).
  * Why is it important to vote?
  * What’s your message to people who believe their votes don’t count?
  * What advice would you give to people with disabilities who want to vote for the first time?

Be creative! We’d love to have stories from as many different communities as possible, representing diverse populations and perspectives.

How to send us your work

Send an email to info at rootedinrights.org<mailto:info at rootedinrights.org> with the subject line #CripTheVote. Include your full name, where you live and a link to your video through YouTube, Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, WeTransfer or and other cloud service. If you have any questions or encounter technical difficulties, please contact info at rootedinrights.org.

Note: Be aware that your submission may or may not be selected for a Rooted in Rights video. Please refrain from mentioning specific candidates and political parties. #CripTheVote and Rooted in Rights are non-partisan and we would like you to focus on issues and political participation in general.

Deadline for submissions: Monday, September 5.
