I have the Motorola G5plus and I tried when I first started up the phone
going up about a third way up the screen and holding, and that didn't do
it. I can press both volume keys together and talkback will resume or
suspend. That is really cool. I love my android phone, When I first got it I
couldn't move files to folders, or create a folder, but now I can, and I can
even create folders, and label them. I am so happy about this phone thanks
for that link I will join that list.

Hi, in the later Android versions on most devices, you can set up the voice
without sighted assistance. In the case of the older Galaxy S5 Mini, the
voice came right up without any help from me, and I got this device about
three years ago.
To enable TalkBack on your own after factory reset, you power up the phone,
then touch and hold about a third way up the screen for about 20 seconds and
keep holding on the screen after the voice starts up, until you hear a tone.
Once you hear the tone, you can release, and you're good to go. What device
do you have?
You can set up further accessibility gestures in the TalkBack settings, and
in the Accessibility settings. TalkBack by default will resume from suspend
at the locked screen. On devices with a physical home button, you can set
up TalkBack to turn on by triple-tapping the home button. From within the
TalkBack settings, there is an option that allows you to long-press both
volume up and down buttons at the same time to suspend or resume TalkBack.
I am by no means an expert, but can share my experience. I have tried
several different devices, as I was helping my husband to find the right
device for him.
I started out with the LG Optimus 2, then went on to experience the Galaxy
S4 Mini, Avail 2 by ZTE, Galaxy S5 Mini, the Blue phone, the Fire Phone, the
LG G4, the Wine Smart Android touch screen flip with physical buttons as
well, the Galaxy S7, and now, the Galaxy S8. However, these devices are
hardly a drop in the bucket compared to all the various Android devices out
there. I don't doubt that there will always be an Android device someone is
using successfully that I haven't heard of.
Also visit www. Inclusiveandroid.com
This site is for the blind user, and many users and developers have posted
reviews and tutorials there. There are also developers on that Android
list, and Victor is a TalkBack developer that is frequently posting to the
list. I will warn you, lots of traffic on this unmoderated list, but a
great resource, and I have learned a lot from it.
Feel free to stay in touch with any questions.

I don't need to do a hard reset now, but after seeing that post from Philip,
I was wondering how to reset the phone without losing talk back. I know how
to reset the phone but I think after you did it you would have to have a
sighted person turn on talk back again. There is a shortcut for suspending
and resuming talk back but it is not on by default. So thanks for sending me
the subscribe link.

Since there are so many Android devices, and different methods of resets,
and different kinds of reset, might need some more details.
For instance in the Galaxy S8, Backup And Reset is in the General Manager
section.
If you are wanting to do a factory reset, is your device one that will start
speaking out of the box when applying the touch-and-hold gesture? I think
this works for most Android phones nowadays, unless you have an older
device.
Are you sure a reset is what you need, because there is some problem-solving
that can correct some problems.
I am glad to share the knowledge I have, but a good resource is to subscribe
to eyes-free at googlegroups.com. Here is the subscribe link

Please feel free to stay in contact with me if I can help in any way.

I'm having some minor issues with a android device. I would like to reset
it. Can anybody give me any instructions on how to do this and still keep
talkback functioning when everything is restored to factory defaults?
