Dear Mr. Hill:

I am a constituent of Representative Delbene and live in Kirkland. As a blind person and member of the National Federation of the Blind, I strongly encourage you and particularly Rep. Delbene to cosponsor this bill which calls upon the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to promulgate nonvisual accessibility standards for Class II and Class III medical devices with digital displays. This standard would apply to devices such as glucometers, sleep apnea machines, blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and oximeters. Since medical devices are used at home and often provided by doctor’s offices, ETC, and are even monitored while there, it is crucial for blind persons to have these devices made usable without having to have someone read the screens or set the devices for whatever they are using the devices for. 

Please contact Representative Jan Schakowsky of Illinois as the sponsor of the bill, and add Representative Delebene to the list of cosponsors ASAP. This bill needs to pass quickly to help the blind to be able to function independently, particularly during this pandemic.
