Greetings,
The NFB Washington Seminar is just over a month away. The issues we will be addressing during the Seminar have been set and the fact sheets are now available in HTML and Word. Downloadable BRF and audio versions will be available soon. You will find a link to the page with the fact sheets at the end of this message.
We will be discussing 4 bills/issues with our members of Congress this year. They are:
1. Access Technology Affordability Act H.R.431/S. 212
Washington state cosponsors: Rep. Suzan DelBene, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Senator Patty Murray
2. Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act H. R. 4853, no senate bill yet
Washington cosponsors: Rep. Adam Smith
3. Twenty-first Century Website and Applications Accessibility Act (no build number yet)
4. Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act H.R. 2373/S. 3238
Washington cosponsors: Rep. Suzan DelBene, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Rep. Derek Kilmer
Our in person team at Washington Seminar will be Marci Carpenter, Amandeep Kaur, May Tran and Kaye Kipp. Kris Colcock and Buna Dahal will also be there performing duties for our national organization and attending meetings with their respective Representatives. For those who don’t know May Tran she is Secretary of our Washington state student division, her hometown is Puyallup and she is a student at the University of Washington. May has also been selected by the National Association of Blind Students to attend a student leadership seminar in Washington DC the weekend before Washington Seminar.
We will be setting up teams here at home to attend meetings with members of Congress who are only holding virtual appointments at this time. As was the case in 2021 many members can attend the virtual meetings. Stay tuned for more news about that. I will be sending another email out later today with information about Washington Seminar issues training sessions. All those attending in person and anyone wanting to be on one of our virtual teams must attend one of these trainings.
I’m very excited about this year‘s NFB Washington Seminar! Some appointments will be in person and some will be virtual and I have every confidence that we will, as always, handle all of them well. Please contact me if you have any questions.
