As many are celebrating holidays and we near the end of 2024 I want to thank all of our members, families, friend and colleagues for all that you do to help blind people turn dreams into reality. We have much work to do in the year ahead but we have reached more blind people this year, people who have never experienced our message of hope and our rock-solid belief in the capabilities of blind people. We held our highest attended state convention, mentored our Teachers of Tomorrow, gained cosponsors on our national legislation, continued our work to bring accessible prescription medication labels to all blind Washingtonians, co-hosted a successful BELL Academy, held our first STEM2U event, and welcomed many new members into our chapters.
The National Federation of the Blind really is a family. We support each other in so many ways, celebrating our members’ milestones and consoling each other in times of personal trouble and loss.
The holidays can be a joyful time. They can also be stressful when we cannot be with our families or when our families don’t believe in our capabilities as blind people. My hope for you this holiday season is that you love and care for yourselves as well as others. I hope this can be a time of peace for all.
I am filled with tremendous gratitude for each of you. It is an honor to work alongside you and to know you. I am eager for our work in 2025 and our continued support of each other.

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
