Meeting Purpose:
During our November meeting, we will once again have the option to order
lunch, eat and mingle ahead of our major business items. While lunch is
served and people are settling in, we will begin playing this month's
Presidential Release
<https://nfb.org/sites/nfb.org/files/08-2024/presidential_release_november_2024_chapter_version.mp3>,
where President Riccobono shares important news and other things
concerning the NFB at the national level. So come and get prepared to
listen to what's going on in our nationwide Blind advocacy movement.
We will have two members of our chapter, Kristin and Collin, who
attended the nationwide NFB Uber and Lyft Rally
<https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5OJvGmCS98I> over in San Francisco. They
will have updates to share about that, plus their experiences, and their
excitement relived. For those who are unaware of this rally, NFB has
protested the constant denials of Uber and Lyft rides taken by blind and
low vision people, especially if they are guide dog owners.
We will be discussing our upcoming elections. No, not the political ones
that would have already had happened by then. FWEIEW! We are talking
about electing officers on our chapter board for next cycle, which
begins next year. So get your questions answered. If you are a
dues-paying member and would like to serve on the chapter board of the
NFBW Seattle Chapter, don't be shy and consider running!
There will be some discussion and calls for input concerning our
upcoming NFBW Seattle chapter Holiday Party, happening on December 14,
2024. Yes, this event is now around the corner - next month. So save the
date!
After our over all meeting and business items have concluded we will
have representatives from Sound Transit in the room with us, running a
study about tactile symbols they are testing out to help blind people
recognize patters with their canes when they are out and about
navigating their transit system, such as the Link Light Rail. Our
chapter meeting shouldn't last more than an hour, or an hour and a half,
then after we are done, expect to interact with Sound Transit folks for
another hour or so. they will be seeking out individual participants,
and there will be compensation incentives! So please stay tuned.
This and much more!
So, will we see you on Saturday November 9? Hopefully yes! Let's
connect, come for the food, stay for the meeting, make friends, and
let's go build the National Federation of the Blind!!!! 🦯🦯
