[Nfbwv-talk] EVELYN MILHORN DIES

I knew Evelyn only in her role as a Federationist--at conventions, board
meetings, and such. I never knew a lot about her personal life, but I do
know that she was employed for many years at the Marsh Wheeling Stogie
factory. I can't recall precisely what her job was, but she is certainly
the only person I ever knew who worked in a cigar plant. I don't believe I
have even seen a Marsh Wheeling stogie, but Dave I suspect you have tried
one.

I am sure Evelyn attended the 1972 national convention in Chicago which was
my first, and she may have attended others. However, I am also sure that
she was not widely known beyond the West Virginia border. Nevertheless, she
did a lot to ensure the survival of our affiliate through its first three
decades.

She may not always have understood the depth and breadth of the Federation
in the same way that others of us did, but she found in the organization a
community of friends working for a cause that she could embrace. She is an
important part of our history, and needless to say, we will miss her and
remember her with fondness.

Ed

Thanks for letting us know, Ed. She and others, including yourself
worked on me 30 years or so ago and Wheeling was my first, of many chapters.
