Good one, Charlene. Did you ever find out whether the elevator had
distinguishable buttons or not?

Subject: [Nfbwv-talk] My Experience with the Elevator

Yesterday morning, I went to my family doctor's office to have some blood
work done. I walked through the first door and started veering to the left
to find the second door. When my cane hit the wall, I reached out to look
for the door handle. When I couldn't find the door handle, I of course
started moving and looking around. In just a step or two in either
direction there was another wall. I figured I must have gotten back in a
little alcove and just needed to work my way out of it. I couldn't find any
opening and thought, "Now wait a minute, I got in here so there has to be a
way out of here." Then I realized I was in an elevator. That elevator was
the smallest elevator I have ever seen. I started looking for the buttons
and Braille to no avail. If there were buttons on that elevator, I couldn't
find them. Maybe it was a flat panel for the buttons. I tried knocking on
the elevator door to get someone's attention with no success so I pulled out
my cell phone to call the doctor's office to explain where I was and what I
needed. Then I heard a couple of people come in the outer door so I started
knocking on the elevator door again and asked them to open the door. First
of all, I didn't even know there was an elevator in that small building and
secondly, I must have walked through with perfect timing to walk right on
the elevator while the door was open. I am still smiling about it.

Charlene
