For those who may be interested, Birthday Babbie will perform a piano solo
on this week's edition of Sidetracks. It is a program of music for Arbor
Day, and I persuaded her to play a Scott Joplin rag titled "Weeping Willow."
The show airs Friday evening at 9:00 on West Virginia Public Radio and
Saturday morning at 11:00 on WFWM, Frostburg, MD. "Weeping Willow" is
perhaps not as well known as other Joplin rags such as "Maple Leaf" or "The
Entertainer," but it is really a hauntingly beautiful piece. She also played
it at a recent benefit concert for our local food pantry.

Pardon the shameless self promotion, but I thought perhaps some of you
(especially those who have never heard Karen's piano work) might like to
tune in.

Ed

PS: The birthday cake was made from Mary Fish's rum cake recipe with lots of
chocolate chips and black walnuts. Yes, Karen did help bake her own birthday
cake, but it was certainly better than most "store-bought" ones.

Hope you've been having a happy day today. We didn't realize until we saw
other messages. Have a happy rest of the day and hope you have many more.
