Season's Greetings from the Huntington branch of the NFBWV family:
It is the third Saturday of December, and true to a wonderful and
long-standing tradition the Huntington Area Chapter just finished our
December Chapter meeting and Holiday meal. After enjoying all of the
marvelous food prepared and furnished by everyone in the chapter it was
hard to push our chairs back from the table. We did manage to do so and
I'm back home.
To bring everyone up to date we share the following.
Our chapter, in consultation with our National Office will prepare a
letter to the Cabell County Public Schools expressing our interest in
ensuring that all electronic books and other materials purchased by the
District meet the legal requirements and our communities expectations
for accessibility. Naturally the NFB Huntington Area Chapter offers our
assistance in facilitating this effort.
We continue to monitor the experience members have with TTA dial-a-ride.
We anticipate inviting an administrative representative to the January
meeting to discuss specific steps which can be taken in order to make
the system more user friendly and predictable for customers, many of
whom are Chapter members.
Lastly, we would like to announce that the Huntington Area Chapter will
host a Spring Tri-state Seminar. We are looking at Saturday May 4 or May
10. Building on the success of 2 earlier Seminars we anticipate using
the Huntington Public Library once again. We are in the very early stage
of program planning. If you have ideas for Plenary or break out
presentations please send them along. Popular topics in the past have
included developments in Library services, transportation strategies in
rural communities, technology and independent access to information and
skills and the alternative techniques of blindness. We are also in need
of funding, if you know of organizations who might be interested in
underwriting the event please forward them to me.
