GREAT NEWS!!!!!! The National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia
(NFBWV) is ready to start teaching blind and visually impaired West
Virginians braille. DRS has given us a grant to conduct a one year
study to see if there is a need for statewide tutors to teach braille to
interested individuals.

HOW IT WORKS

If you know of anyone who is interested in learning to read and write
braille (contracted or uncontracted), simply call:

President: Charlene Smyth

220 Buena Vista Avenue

Clarksburg, WV 26301

HOME PHONE: (304) 622-0626

WORK PHONE: (304) 842-2951

E-MAIL: cs.nfbwv at frontier.com

Ms. Smyth will match the interested student with the braille tutor and
make the referral. Keep in mind that we don't have mentors in all areas
and Ms. Smyth will notify you if this is the case.

Training will be provided by a trained braille user and reports will be
provided on the students progress to the referring person. Training
will be provided in the student's home, or a centrally located facility
convenient to the student. THERE IS NO COST FOR THE TRAINING. The
student will receive instructional materials; slate & stylus; Braille
paper; and braille eraser which they may keep. Once braille training
has been completed, a final report will be sent to the referring person.

WHO IS QUALIFIED

Any West Virginia citizen with a significant vision loss is qualified to
receive this service. We will target 18 and older; there is no maximum
age restriction.
