The Social Security Administration recently announced that local field
offices will no longer disseminate benefit verification letters.
The beneficiary may go online at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and
create a Social Security account and get the Benefit Verification Letter
online. It can be saved to their computer and printed, or they can
email it to whomever is requesting it.
They can also request it be mailed, and the letter will be sent to their
own mailing address. It will take 3 to 5 business days to receive it.
Or they may call the local SSA field office and request it. (this
option will eventually be eliminated, but SSA did not provide a
timeframe when --- they are initiating this new promotion of online
access)
