At our Board meeting this week-end I had the pleasure of demonstrating
and discussing an exciting opportunity to purchase laptop computers for
$150. Mission West Virginia is an organization which makes computers
available to not for prophet organizations and individuals in West
Virginia at very affordable prices.

We are partnering with them to equip these computers with free and low
cost access technology. I will be meeting with Dave Rogers, Mission West
Virginia's executive director this week to finalize pricing and the
method for ordering and delivering these computers.

Here is what I'm going to suggest in terms of features. Please get back
with me, individually, if you have questions. I may not be able to
respond to every message until things are a bit more certain.

Laptop with screen reading and magnification
$150
Includes
NVDA Screen Reader
A link to System Access To Go, free screen magnifier/screen reader.
Note, using System Access requires a high speed internet connection.
Thunderbird e-mail program
Jarte basic word processing program
/ Libre /Office office suite, comparable to MS Office
Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers
iTunes for Windows
Additional software as requested

Laptop with Ms Office and Window-Eyes for Office
$170
This machine provides a full version of the current MS Office, Home and
Business, for only $20 more than the standard system. In addition,
Window-Eyes for Office is included. Purchased alone Window-Eyes is more
than $700.
All of the same software included with the standard laptop is also
installed.

The computers are HP business class machines. Windows 7, 64 bit
Professional and 4 gig of ram are installed.

I /am excited by the opportunity to deliver true first class
accessibility at an affordable price to blind people across West Virginia.
