I too would feel better if he had a back ground in blindness/visual impairment.  I do, however; hope that since he too has a disability that this will make him a good fit.  I don't know anything about the Indiana School for the Deaf, but the Indiana School for the Blind has a good reputation regarding the education of blind and visually impaired students.  Hopefully, they have the same philosophy.

A duel degree somewhere in VI qualifications would make me feel optomistic.
Many people have them VI/HI.  That would be a challenge.
