December 21, 2016 Weekly Note

It is with great pleasure that I announce the recent election of new officers to the WVSDB Foundation. Ms. Karen Trueblood was elected President and Ms. Eileen Johnson, Secretary. Karen is a retired Navy captain with 37 years of service. Her last duty was at the Pentagon in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Readiness, Training and Mobilization; she served as the director of the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program. In her civilian experience, she was a legislative aide to Rep. John Maher, Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and has 30 years of experience as a neonatal intensive care nurse. She has been extremely helpful in WVSDB's pursuit of military assistance with regard to facility repair and renovation. Karen is new to Hampshire County and resides in Capon Bridge. If you would like to contact Karen for possible fundraising ideas, you may email her at

Eileen is the Executive Director for the Hampshire County Economic Development Authority (HCDA) where she works to facilitate economic growth through business recruitment, relocation, job expansion, and creation. Prior to becoming the Executive Director, Eileen served as a board member to the HCDA for seven years while employed as the Administrator for the City of Romney from November 2006 until transitioning full time to her current position in July 2015. Eileen is also a member on the WVSDB Advisory Board. She and her husband Ken live in Bloomery, WV. The Foundation is planning to implement a new website as well as to develop a strategic plan.

We want to take this opportunity to thank former President, Debbi Williamson, for her dedication and commitment to the students, staff, parents and the WVSDB Foundation. She is an original member of the Board. Her time and support have formed a firm underpinning on which the Foundation can continue to build and grow in its efforts to support the schools and the Deaf and blind communities in West Virginia.

Hearty congratulations to Makenzi Perry, 8th grade WVSD student, for winning the 2016 WVSDB Christmas card design contest.

We are pleased to announce the recent hire of Ms. Camilla Hardinger as the new Coordinator of Multi-Sensory Program. She is slated to begin her duties on January 3rd. Camilla stepped down as the Assistant Principal at Hampshire High School in order to assume this role at WVSDB. Welcome aboard, Camilla!

Our schools' Holiday programs will be performed tomorrow morning. The WVSB program will start at 10:00 a.m. and the WVSD's is scheduled to commence at 10:45 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the programs.

WVSDB will be closed on December 23 - January 2 and classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.

I wish you and your family a beautiful, peaceful Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Respectfully yours,

Dr. Martin P. Keller, Jr., Superintendent
