Mountain Streams to begin broadcasting in January. KEYSER, W.Va. - Ed
McDonald, station manager of Mountain Streams, a new low power FM radio
station based in Keyser, says he'll realize his lifelong dream of operating
a radio station when it begins broadcasting next month.

"When the internet stream begins to flow and the radio signal hits the
air, it will indeed be the fulfillment of a dream," McDonald wrote on the
station's website. "It is nonetheless an untested dream, and I can only
hope that it is successful. I hope that our community benefits in many ways
from the services we plan to offer and that listeners around the world
enjoy the music we play.

The station, WKYW-LP 102.9 FM, is a broadcast service of the Mineral
County Historical Society. The radio station will broadcast from Catamount
Place on the campus of Potomac State College of West Virginia University.

"The whole idea is to advertise local activities and do historical
vignettes," Frank Roleff, president of the Mineral County Historical
Society, said.

The station will also offer community reports from Potomac State,
Keyser-Mineral County Public Library, Aging & Family Services of Mineral
County and Frankfort and Keyser high schools.

McDonald entered into an agreement with the college for a 500-square-foot
space in Catamount Place.

"His plan is to bring the communications majors from Potomac State into
that and give the opportunity to work on a radio station," Roleff said.
"This is under the auspices of the historical society because we are a
501(c)(3) organization and it had to be under the auspices of a
not-for-profit organization.

Funding for the transmitter and antenna for the station were funded in
part by a grant from the Community Trust Foundation.

The non-commercial station will also stream online at
www.mountainstreamsradio.org .
