Hello, everyone.
I want to tell you all how much it meant to the family that the 
affiliate sent flowers.  Her three daughters told me how much fun 
she had at our conventions and they appreciated your great 
kindness so much.  I was told that the flowers were beautiful.  
It was a very emotional day for us all and new memories were made 
throughout the weekend.

 I am sure that none of this discussion would have ever made its 
way to an NFB list if Shirley had not attended a few of our 
national conventions and gotten acquainted with a number of us.

 I suppose our families can have very different responses to our 
NFB involvement.  My dad, for example, never came near a 
Federation meeting of any kind.  (He was not opposed, but simply 
chose not to become involved.)  On the other hand--as some of you 
will recall--my mother certainly did.

 I am grateful that Madaline and Shirley chose to attend a few of 
our conventions.  In some respects, it became a vacation for 
them, and they may not have understood all of the issues we dealt 
with.  Nevertheless, they got to see a lot of blind people 
gathered in one place and doing what we do as a movement, and I 
am sure they came away with a better understanding of blindness 
than they had in the first place.  What's more, they made some 
new friends!

 The only thing I can tell you right now is that the funeral will 
be held at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

 Mom seemed okay this morning when I talked to her.  She is 
waiting for my cousin to pick her up.  They will be traveling to 
West Virginia this afternoon.

 I told her about the flowers and she was very touched.  She 
asked me to say thank you and we all appreciate it.

 Hello, everyone.

 I have some sad news to pass on to all of you.  For those of you 
who
 knew my Aunt Shirley, I want you to know that she passed this
 afternoon.  She was undergoing kidney dialysis three times a 
week
 for the last couple of years and I guess it was just too much 
for
 her.  She had been in the hospital in Morgantown and she was 
brought
 home on Sunday to a nursing home.  That's all I know right now 
but I thought you all would want to know.
