Hi everyone,
Our state convention will be here before you know it. It's time to be thinking Who you might want to nominate for the Richard L Porter award.
Below is an overview of the purpose of the award. If you have someone in mind, please have your navigations to me no later than August 7, 2017 so I have time to meet with the committee and have a plaque made up for the chosen individual

RICHARD L. PORTER AWARD
The Richard L. Porter Award shall be an award presented by the National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia in memory of Richard L. "Dick" Porter, president of the organization from 1979 to 1988.
The purpose of the award shall be to recognize the contribution of persons who are not members of the National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia but who demonstrate in an especially significant manner a Deep and sincere understanding of, support for, and commitment to the concepts and goals of security, equality and opportunity for all blind persons.
The recipient of the Richard L. Porter Award shall be selected by the Awards and Honors Committee which is appointed each year by the president of the National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia.
The Richard L. Porter Award shall be presented during the banquet at the organization's Annual Convention. The award need not be presented each year but shall be presented only when the committee determines that there is a worthy recipient. It shall be regarded as one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on an individual by the National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia and therefore shall not be granted unless it is duly merited.
The Richard L. Porter Award shall consist of an appropriately designed plaque which shall include language that is identical with or comparable to that which appears as follows:
Adopted by the NFBWV Board of Directors April 6, 1991.
RICHARD L. PORTER AWARD
Presented To (name of recipient) in recognition of deep and sincere understanding of support forand commitment to the concepts and goals ofsecurity, equality, and opportunity for all persons who happen to be blind.
