> Thank you to all who have shared how you are practicing self care and staying busy! Many of you are and that is so key! Here is Jeannie Massay and her recent experiences:
> Hi Jimmy,
>
> I have been doing lots of things to keep me busy and to practice self-care during this uncertain and stressful time. For the time being I have taken my practice to a virtual platform which is HIPPA compliant and allows me to interact with my clients via video or chat. The majority of my clients have moved to this so my work life is mostly the same.
> The important work of the National Federation of the Blind continues on and that has kept me busy as well. Everything we normally do in person mmust now be done virtually, something I am thankful for and am proud of our collective efforts to make meetings and other enrichment and social activities available across the country. President Riccobono’s leadership has really shown brightly over this situation. I have been able to participate in all of our chapter meetings and some others including a virtual birthday party.
> I am also in a doctoral program. I started my second year in February. That is keeping me busy as well. I am taking one course at a time which will take a little longer but affords me the opportunity to continue working and to continue my work with the Federation.
> The rest of my time is spent with my husband of almost thirty years, cooking, watching Syfy and reading for pleasure. My favorite self-care activity is Active Progressive Muscle Relaxation (APMR). I teach this to my clients and try to do this daily. It helps to reduce physical tension and it calms the mind. You can find some pretty good guided ones on Youtube. Some are pretty out there but keep looking until you find one you like is the advice I give others.
> I have also made an effort to Facetime my sighted friends and family, in particular, my mother. She is feeling fairly isolated by the shelter in place order and social distancing.
> Thanks Jeannie! Here is another inspirational interview that I hope you will enjoy. Stay tuned for our next Quarantine Connect as we share a message and performance from the great sax player Steve Norman. You have heard his music before. Have you ever called the national office? If so, you then heard Steve playing Live the Life You Want while you were on hold. So stay tuned for another special treat next week! Now, here is the link to an interview with Brilynn Riggs, a very talented performer/dancer, who had the privilege to dance on the show Dancing with the Stars!
