I am so saddened to hear about the death of Mary Fish. I can remember the first time she came to one of the Nfb conventions. She said at the banquet table with me and Andy and it she was such a joy to talk with and get to know. While I am on here, I just want to give all of you an update about my mom. She has her good days and her bad days physically. Her mind is still really good. We are going to have to admit her to a nursing home this coming Wednesday. We are very sad about that but she is requiring a lot of physical care and sometimes lifting. Please keep her and all of us in your prayers.

Fellow FederationIsts,

I was saddened to learn from Jack Yahnke at our quarterly board meeting this weekend that longtime NFBWV and Sightless Workers Guild member Mary Fish had passed away back in November. The obituary is below.

I remember Mary as being one of our real up and comers about 15 years ago when she first joined. She was very quick to get involved in our movement and learn all about it, and really seemed to be at home in our organization. She served NFBWV faithfully as a board member and working member of several of our committees.

I had already been missing her for the longest time, and I know we all will from this point forward.

Marcus Soulsby
President, NFBWV

Mary Williams Fish passed away at home on Wednesday, November 3, at the age of 74. Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, and aunt, and will always be remembered for her kindness, her generosity of spirit, and her love of family. Mary was born at Ohio Valley General Hospital on November 17, 1946, to the late Louie and Betty Williams. She grew up alongside her younger sister and brothers, Millie, Fred and Eddie, in Cameron. Mary never met a stranger, and during the years that she and her husband Jim owned Fish’s Furniture Store in Cameron and Moundsville, she could always be found chatting up her customers – she truly had the “gift of gab.” Mary dearly loved her family and was happiest when the entire gang was together. Travel was one of her pleasures, and her favorite trips were family outings – at the beach house in North Carolina with the Cook, Chelette and Piccotti cousins, and her last trip, a Disney cruise with her brother Fred and his family.

Mary was a wonderful aunt to several generations of children, including her nieces and nephews, Amanda, Dolly, Jack and Louie, and her great-nephews and great-niece, Jon, Ruby, Kenneth, and Ben. To them, she was Aunt May or Aunt Mimi, and especially in her later years she took great joy and pride in watching them grow.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim Fish, her brother Eddie Williams and her niece Amanda Rich. Survivors include her sister Millie Rich, her brother Fred Williams (Kara), her stepdaughters Diana Anderson and Sheila Bennett, her niece Dolly Dalton, her nephews Jack and Louie Williams, her great-niece and greatnephews, many beloved aunts, uncle, cousins and friends, and her mischievous dog and constant companion, Chloe.

The family would like to give special thanks to her cousin, Tammy Chelette, and her family, who kept in close touch and made many trips to visit Mary when she was no longer able to travel, and to Tom and Cindy Heise, her neighbors and friends who looked in on her for so many years.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7th, 2021 from noon until time of memorial services at 1:30 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 1109 2nd Street, Moundsville, WV with Reverend Steven Jumper officiating. Private interment in Highland Cemetery, Cameron.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seeing Hand Association, Inc., 750 Main Street, Wheeling WV 26003.
