[NFBWV-Talk] just curious how you all feel about an email I'm going to forward to the list

I shall take a different view of the blind Barbie. I wear clothes with elastic waistbands, not because I can't handle a button or a snap, but because they are more comfortable, especially when moving about. Remember that all blind people aren't alike and the only way we can all be represented properly is to make an entire family of dolls. There are both negative and positive aspects in any representation. For example, is there a Barbie with zits, or one with buck teeth? Have they made a druggie Barbie with needle marks, scabs and sores? Sometimes I think we are too sensitive. Remember that these are toys and any teaching moment is better than getting everything right. By being critical of what the developers were trying to accomplish, are we no better than the people we are opposing? I'm just expressing another opinion.

I believe like you that she needs to have regular clothes and not be looking up and outward. I think she should have her own accessories like a cane and a dog guide in harness showing that we don't all use the same mobility aids. This just doesn't portray us in the best light. I will not be purchasing one either.
