[NFBWV-Talk] NFBWV Members at Large Chapter Meeting, May 9

The Members at Large Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia will hold its next regular monthly meeting via Zoom on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Zoom information is below, and minutes for our April 11 meeting will be distributed in time for your review before Thursday's meeting.

The agenda will include a review of highlights from the recent meeting of the affiliate's board of directors, particularly an update on convention plans.

In addition, please come prepared to discuss the future of our chapter, including the transition of leadership. You may recall that several months ago I said that I will not serve another term as chapter president following our annual election of officers in the fall. At this time I have no intention to choose or endorse a successor; however, I am eager to work in any way I can with anyone who may be interested in assuming this responsibility. Our chapter has been blessed with several new members in recent months, and we need a leader who will focus on continuing to grow and nurture our membership. We also need new and fresh ideas for building and mobilizing a strong community of blind persons in West Virginia, and I have faith that if we really value the community we are building, someone will step forward to help lead the effort. 

I believe that each of us has a responsibility to think seriously about what the National Federation of the Blind means to us, what we envision for the future of the organization in West Virginia, and the ongoing commitment that each one of us is willing to make to help ensure that future. Be assured that after more than 50 years as a Federationist, I have no intention to leave the organization. I know, however, that the time has come for me to make serious choices about how best to contribute my time and talents to the work of the Federation.

With these things in mind, I hope that during Thursday's meeting we can begin a serious conversation about our hopes and expectations for the organization, the role of the Members at Large Chapter as part of moving forward, and making individual commitments to the work of building our future.

If you have additional items for Thursday's agenda, please let me know. Meanwhile, I look forward to another productive gathering of our Federation family.
