[NHLakesChapter] Oppose the Save Act in all its forms

Hello Jodi

As someone who nearly lost the ability to vote in my local town after a move, I have to very much disagree. I moved during the pandemic to help my mom while she was supporting my then ailing grandmother, and I went to vote with an expired license as I couldn’t get to a DMV yet. I had a copy of my birth certificate, and the supervisor – who knew me from childhood I may add – had to turn me away as it didn’t look right being a copy from just after I was born and laminated. This before the restrictions in our state that are mild in comparison to the SAVE act, and it took six weeks at least – I don’t recall the exact timespan – before my new certificate from California arrived.

Now imagine if that could happen at any one election throughout the year, wherein I would have to show that birth certificate and hope this time it looked correct. Add if it didn’t, I would only be able to back it up with a passport, which costs over a hundred dollars or more (sorry, don’t know the current cost). Thankfully I’m working part-time and could afford the cost, assuming I have the right documents to get one and can find a bank anywhere within easy travelling distance to get one. Also I have to hope the process of getting said passport doesn’t take up until the next election as it’s not a quick or easy process. That’s what the so-called SAVE act would demand of me wanting to simply go vote.

Oh, and by the way, the amount of fraud that exists is maybe 4 cases in ten years across several hundred thousand voters per election, which works out to .001%, assuming 400,000 voters an election year.

Anyways, I hope this was informative, and again I would urge people to please reach out to our senators. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Sincerely

Andrew Harmon

and identity, possibly because you got married at some point. Further imagine you have to show these documents each and every time you want to vote. That’s what this bill will do. From: NHLakesChapter <nhlakeschapter-bounces at nfbnet.org> On Behalf Of Jody ianuzzi via NHLakesChapter

I don't see the problem. I just got my real ID card last month. It was no big deal You need a ID to buy a case of beer or fly on an airplane. I don't see this is discriminatory at all. You also have to be a citizen in order to vote you still have to show an ID when you vote in New Hampshire.

Hello

Please consider contacting Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and ask them to oppose the SAVE (HR 22)

and SAVE America acts (HR 7296).

In NH we currently have to prove citizenship under the onerous HB 1569 (which is thankfully being sued, pending a decision), but only to register to vote. The above acts would force us to carry proof of citizenship either via birth certificate, or passport (if your name changed, you have to show original birth certificate, not just current copy with the name change).

Currently Senator Hassan is opposed to these acts, and it’s not out of committee yet. Please consider calling or emailing them and giving your support in their opposition towards these absolutely egregious bills that will effectively remove the ability for thousands in NH and millions nationwide to be able to effectively vote.

Here’s the Contact info including DC office numbers and web sites. The email is only through a form on their web sites, unfortunately. Please still consider contacting, and I’m adding the web sites so you can contact a local office instead if you prefer:

Senator Hassan DC office: (202) 224-3324

Contact form (sadly no email option):

https://www.hassan.senate.gov/contact/email

Web site:

www.hassan.senate.gov <http://www.hassan.senate.gov>

Senator Shaheen

DC Office number:

(202) 224-2841

Contact form link:

https://www.shaheen.senate.gov/contact/contact-jeanne

Web site:

https://www.shaheen.senate.gov/contact/contact-jeanne

Thank you in advance for considering doing this and I hope you are all doing well!

Sincerely

Andrew Harmon

Thank you all
