Thanks I really don't want to spend the money , I have the old type of
bracelet. There is also a card you can put your information on. My information
keeps changing and it would be old. Angela Angela

Just to clarify. the medic alert emblem doesn't have any electronic
chips. The information gets engraved on and is visually read off by an
emergency worker in the instance you might need it.

Hi folks:

I finally got around to getting a Medic Alert membership & id bracelet for
myself so thought I’d share some of the information about Medic Alert if
any of you are so inclined to set this up for yourself.

I found the web site over-whelming with the amount of stuff they have so I
just called them and got the bare-bones basics. But, if you want to go
and nosey around on their web site to find out what they offer, here is their
contact information:

Medic alert 1-888 633-4298
6-5 Monday through Friday 2-5 Saturdays. California time
_www.medicalert.org_ (http://www.medicalert.org/)
The cost for a basic annual membership is $50.00. With becoming a member
I bought the basic stainless steel bracelet with oval Medic Alert emblem.
I got a red emblem which is their traditional color, but they offer other
colors like black, purple, pink, etc. My opinion only is its not great
jewelry so I just wanted to keep it simple. The cost of the basic stainless
bracelet is $10 plus the membership for a total of $60.
Oh yes, the shipping is around $7 so the grand total is $67.
The $50 membership entitles you to unlimited updates on your information
for 1 year. You can list multiple conditions like diabetes, type 1 or 2,
blindness or legally blind, high blood pressure. I think you are limited to
what will fit on the emblem – I got the small one and could list 4 things.
These conditions get engraved onto the emblem and because it is
personalized it is not refundable. It will also spell out their 1-800 number and
your own id number. The size of the bracelet goes from about 5-inches up to I
think she told me 10-Inches (the sizes I might be off on so call if you
need to know)
With your account they will take a list of all your meds, important
doctors like primary &/or diabetic, &/or cardiologist. You can list 1 or 2
emergency contacts.
They offer other types of jewelry link necklaces, dog tags, leather,
beaded bands or even gold and sterling silver but you will pay a lot more for
these choices.
So hope this helps. The annual fee of $50 must get paid once every year
in order to be able to keep your information updated for emergencies when
you can’t communicate this type of information for yourself.
Stay cool and talk soon.
Eileen
