Ruben Pabon, Jr Scholarship

Do you know a high school senior who could use a 

scholarship? The student should apply for the Newark Borinquen Lions Club for a 

scholarship honoring past governor Ruben Pabon.


The scholarship is open to any senior in the Multiple 

District and is merit based.


Criteria for Selection.


     The student must attend a high 

school in the Multiple District, have permanent residence in MD 16, proof of 

residency and school registration are required. 


     By June, the student must have 

completed high school or it’s equivalent and have proof of their acceptance into 

an accredited NJ College or University.


    Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or 

higher.


Other criteria to be considered: The student must submit 

a one page typed essay highlighting their: Academic Achievements, Career Goals, 

Community Involvement, How the community will benefit from the students’ goal 

attainment, other information that the students feel is 

relevant.


   Students must submit 3 letters of 

recommendation. 


   A transcript must be submitted or sent by 

the high school.


    Application period March 5 to May 5, 

2009

Awarded scholarships are based on financial need, 

academic potential, community involvement and a personal 

interview.


 


The scholarship will be awarded at the 88th 

Annual MD 16 Convention.
