Hello NJABS,
Its Isaiah here from the Georgia Association of Blind Students, and I just
wanted to take this opportunity to share a little something something about
the Youth Slam. As all of you should know, the Youth Slam is approximately
four months away. To those of you who applied as a student, a mentor, or a
volunteer, GOOD JOB, I am proud of each and every one of you. To those of
you who didn’t apply, shame on you. You will truly be missing out on
something very special and educational that could possibly change your
life.

To those of you who did apply: I would like to take this time to highlight a
few ideas that you should think about. First, where are you going? You are
going to the Youth Slam in College Park, Maryland, which will be one of the
largest gatherings of blind youth who will be inspired to consider careers
that were never dreamed possible by blind people. Next, why is it
important? The Youth Slam will be an opportunity of a lifetime. There are
not many programs that will go to the extent that this program has to
educate two hundred blind students in one place. Not only are you learning
a lot and making history, but also you are changing the face of the future
of our blind community. Lastly, how can you take advantage of the Youth
Slam? Take this wonderful opportunity to network. During your time in
Maryland, you will meet some great friends. There will be people there from
across the nation and from other countries. As you get older, these friends
and contacts will become crucial to your prosperity and success.

I can truly say from a personal experience that the Youth Slam changed my
life in the three aforementioned ideas listed above. Again, good luck to
all those who applied and congrats to all those who have been accepted. If
you have any questions, please feel free to contact me personally; my info
is below. Thanks for taking the time to read this excerpt, and I will
hopefully see you all in July.
Sincerely yours,
Isaiah WIlcox
