Okay guys, I had the letters all mixed up so it
took me a while to find it. It is IAADP, International Association of
Assistance Dog Partners. They have a website, <A

The also have a newsletter, but when I tried to
enter on it it did that click which usually means mouse-over, which I don't know
how to deal with. Actually, I can't deal with mice in any form, unless
they are someone's pet.

There are certain benefits to joining, like
discounts on some stuff. Membership is $30 a year, or $60 for 3
years. You can apply online and pay with paypal, or print out an
application and send it in with a check. I'm not sure how many times a
year the newsletter comes out, two or three maybe, and it comes in different
formats. I got so frustrated trying to read the back issues that I gave
up, but there is a lot of info in their site.

Hi Tracy,
I do not have pet insurance, but I am considering
it. I think that when pet
insurance first started, it did not
include regular check ups. But from
what I understand, some of them
do now. Just a regular visit with all the
regular shots and
vaccines, plus heartworm and flea treatments, they run
over $400 including
a 10% discount for service animals. I had Jake in over
night because
he ate something he wasn't supposed to, he was on fluids and
all
that. Thank God he passed what he ate and there was no further
treatment or surgery which would have been the next step if he wasn't
going
to pass it, because that cost me $1700. It is very
expensive. But you do
what you got to do.
Lynn
----- Original

to take Ben to the vet yesterday for what I think will turn out to
> be
nothing. He had an exam, urinalysis, and a blood test, and it came
to
> $260! I was shocked. Is this typical? Have I
forgotten what vet trips
> cost? This was our first time at a new vet,
since our old one went out of
> business. It seems like a big
practice, with a small lab on the premises,
> so maybe that's what I'm
paying for. I want the best care for my dogs, of
> course, but...
When I bring both dogs in for their annual check-up in the
> spring, I
can see that it could easily cost me $500-600, and maybe more.
> If I
were unemployed, it would be prohibitive. I'd have to switch back
to
> GDB, just for the vet stipend.
> Anyone have pet
insurance? Is it working out well? Too bad Benny can't
> be
on my Blue Cross. He needs a prescription plan too--heartworm
pills
> are $7 a pill, as I recall. Way more than my
cancer-fighting pills, which
> are covered by my insurance.
> So,
I'm just wondering, are these costs typical, or not? And I'd love
to
> hear about any experiences with pet insurance.
>
