well, Ken
I do not use facebook but to get a picture from an attachment in wlm (windows live mail)
1 open the message with the attachment
2 use 
alt f then  S 
3 this will bring up an area and tabbing will allow you to save it where you wish
Now as far as facebook goes, I will ask  for assistance from another on this list that has ffacebook

Hi folks ken here My roommate just sent me a picture that I want to upload to facebook for my profile.  I have the photo but not sure how to get it from the attachment in the message up to facebook.  I see the button to view it in windows live mail but nothing is happening when I try to bring up a context menue to get it to my harddrive.  it was taken just after the end of the last session of our convention sunday.  so how do I get a photo from an email attachment up to facebook?  thanks.
