I use wlm and I use the following short/hot keys
Open the email
get to the attachment
now, press alt f, then s, A and enter
this will get you to to save the attachment
woo hoo

open the email, press alt f to open the file menu.  down arrow to save and press enter. 
down arrow to attachments and save as you would in a typical e-mail program.
